Care for the delicate eye area – imperative for a youthful mien – with the range of eye-care products by Christian BRETON.

The eye area is one of the first to show signs of ageing such as wrinkles, dark circles and dryness, no thanks to the thin skin in the area – around one-tenth the thickness of the skin elsewhere on the face. Compounding the problem is the fact that there are very few oil glands in the eye area.

Most skincare ranges include one or two eye-care products, but French brand Christian BRETON has an impressive 18, including three eyelash products. Inspired by cryotherapy – specifically, the application of ice on injured areas of the body to reduce inflammation – these products are designed to work on a host of eye-area concerns, from wrinkles to a loss of firmness and signs of fatigue. For maximum efficacy, the brand recommends storing the products in the fridge. Here are three of the top performers.

Counters discoloration

Dark Undereye Corrector Serum ($82 for 15ml) works on lightening dark spots and brownish circles under the eyes with brightening ingredients commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine – such as huang qi, chai hu and bai zhu – and ingredients with moisturising, skin-soothing and sebum-controlling properties. This intensive treatment is to be used morning and night for eight to 10 weeks; the brand recommends using it with its UV Eye Protection SPF30/PA.

Tackles saggy skin and softens the look of expression lines

Lift ox Eye Lifting Serum – Instant D-Wrinkle ($90 for 10ml) reduces sagginess and minimises the appearance of fine lines with three star ingredients: Vemple Viper, a synthetic form of a protein found in the snake venom from the Temple Viper that the brand claims has a botox-like effect; collagen to hydrate and plump skin; and mineral- and vitaminrich caviar, which is used for its reported regenerative properties. Massage the lightweight serum into skin with the ball applicator – this is said to promote lymphatic drainage – and you’ll reportedly enjoy de-puffing benefits too.

Perks up tired-looking eyes

Fatigue can result in dark rings, puffiness and a dull eye area. Formulated with plant extracts, Eye Care Anti-fatigue Gel ($90 for 15ml) is designed to reduce puffiness – it is reputedly a favourite of cabin crew for its de-puffing benefits – and dark circles, diminish the look of small wrinkles, and soothe and refresh the eye area. It is quickly absorbed and can be applied any time – day, night and even over makeup.
