THE PRECIOUSJEWELLERY BRAND THAT KATE MADE COOL: MONICA VINADER (MV)

You know how it is: anything that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge (yup, that’s her below) wears one day becomes headline news the next.

We can see why Kate likes Monica Vinader’s pieces. They are everything she is: discreet, casual yet elegant, modern, accessible, and everyday, somehow making a fashion statement without obviously doing so. Wearing an MV piece (or several at one go) is like wearing jewellery that becomes you, not the other way around. The Spanish creative director/founder (pictured above) of her namesake brand is based in England, with a workshop in the countryside. Her pieces, inspired by her travels and modern architecture, are minimum but not minimal, worn alone or stacked, and if any part of the jewellery has enough flat space, personalised engraving is encouraged and complimentary. Her three bestsellers: the Fiji friendship band, a sophisticated take on the bohemian accessory; the Siren, an organically shaped ring with a bespokecut semi-precious stone; and the Skinny ring, superthin and rimmed with teeny diamonds. “My design ethos is a simple one: It’s all about taking a clean aesthetic and creating a casual elegance, through instantly wearable pieces that make women look and feel good,” says Monica. “Every piece I make, whether it’s a diamond ring or a gold pendant, is designed to work in any situation and with any look.” Her other fans – actresses Emma Watson (above right), Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen – pretty much agree.
