Love at third whiff

These fragrances may not smell like the kind you’d normally go for at first, but they’re unexpectedly mellow and easy to wear once they settle.

Chloe Fleur de Parfum EDP (price unavailable).

A powdery rose bouquet comes to mind immediately with this one, but it develops into a light and unobtrusive cherry blossom scent with citrusy lemon and cedar notes. Suitable for the office.

Shiseido Ever Bloom EDP (price unavailable).

This smells of heady-sweet roses at first, but becomes a sexy musky scent with hints of gardenia and spice after half an hour. It’s not cloyingly saccharine and is versatile enough to be worn to a wedding dinner or work.

YSL Beaute Mon Paris EDP, from $112

Like an over-enthusiastic suitor, this fruity, Paris-inspired scent is pretty intense at first with its raspberry and pear notes. After two hours though, it settles into a smoky patchouli-and-orangeblossom scent that reminds us of Parisian summer nights – very warm and romantic. Bonus: it has great lasting power; the scent lingered for five hours.
