Italian fashion magnate Brunello Cucinelli has always done things in new-school-meets-old ways. He was one of the first to embrace a more humanist yet progressive way to build a global lifestyle brand (most of its wares are made in a 12th-century hamlet in Solomeo, Italy, by local artisans), and he opts for handmade products instead of mass production.
His first finejewellery line, Aurum (say “or-rem”), is a 13-piece, 18K gold collection designed in a graphic style for modern-day versatility, and is handcrafted by in-house Italian artisans using lostwax casting, an eco technique used to create detailed or complicated metalwork. (According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, this technique dates back to the 3rd millennium BC.)
Twelve of the 13 items – ranging from a ring to necklaces, bracelets, cuffs and earrings – are available at Brunello Cucinelli’s Singapore flagship at #B1-81 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. From $2,890. - ST

Vans’ Cush Comfort Sneakers
In 1976, Vans released the Era sneaker after pro skateboarders Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta gave feedback that they were looking for functional skate shoes. Forty-three years later, the brand is still listening to its customers: the Era now has an even more cushiony interior foam sole and added arch support. From $99 for the slip-ons to $129 for the lace-ups.
