Esteemed as a pioneer in oil-free skincare, Japanese brand ORBIS has won our trust with bestsellers formulated to boost enzyme activity in the skin and work towards enhancing our natural beauty. All of its formulations seek to protect the skin as well as improve its hydration, texture, clarity, smoothness and firmness – all of which the brand believes are essential qualities of healthy skin. Long hours spent in front of our favourite gadgets – computers, tablets, smartphones and televisions – for both work and leisure is sure to take a toll on our eye health. To help us out, ORBIS adopts a two-pronged strategy, a holistic approach that works on enhancing the look and health of the eyes.

My Reading Room
TAKE A BREAK

For a relaxing overnight treat, look to ORBIS Hot Eye Refre Pack ($33 for 25g). This gel-like eye serum becomes warm upon contact with skin, which helps to soothe tiredness around the eyes. It also tackles undereye dullness arising from ageing, poor blood circulation and UV damage.

My Reading Room
ENHANCE EYE HEALTH

Meant to support eye health, ORBIS Blueberry Grape Extract ($32 for a pack of 40 capsules) is made with wild Nordic bilberry extract, which has anthocyanin to protect eye capillaries and improve blood circulation. It also has lutein, thought to help preserve retinal health and prevent eye diseases, as well as other goodies, such as grapeseed extract, perilla oil and beta-carotene, that contribute to improved vision.

PROTECT YOUR EYES

1 PREP THE SCREEN FOR OPTIMAL VIEWING

Increase the text size and screen resolution, and adjust the brightness so it matches that of your surroundings. Also, adjust the contrast for comfort.

2 TAKE BREAKS

After roughly 20 minutes of staring at the screen, turn away and look at something about 6m away for 20 seconds. This relaxes the eye muscles and reduces fatigue.

3 GET SHADY

Avoid staring into direct sunlight. When indoors, use curtains to block out the glare. Arm yourself with a pair of sunglasses that block out 99 per cent of UVA and UVB rays when outdoors.
