Louis Vuitton may have brought the fashion cognoscenti to Rio de Janeiro, but it was Nicolas Ghesquière who transported them to a tropical Utopia. The Marvelous City and the cariocas (as its people are known) inspired Vuitton’s cruise 2017 collection, where slashed striped trousers, embroidered wrap skirts and tech-thongs were shown against the dramatic backdrop of the saucer-shaped Niterói Contemporary Art Museum and the surrounding rock and seascapes. Showgoers were transferred to Rio’s legendary colonial café, Parque Lage, for a glittering afterparty once the fashion show ended. As the evening went on, caipirinhas and pulsating rhythms fuelled the guests to dance the night away: Ghesquière’s current muse, Alicia Vikander, hit the dance floor with the man of the hour, while Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana shimmied alongside exuberant samba dancers. If there’s only one thing to say about this unforgettable event, it’s this: Brazilians know how to party.
