In 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri made history by becoming Dior’s first female Creative Director. Naturally, the accomplishment led Chiuri to rethink the idea of femininity and what it means to be a woman today. The result? An impactful first collection filled with gems such as fencing-inspired vests, dreamy tulle skirts and logoed knickers. However, it was the appearance of a humble t-shirt with the slogan, “We should all be feminists,” that sealed Chiuri’s place as the new First Lady of fashion. “I’m very happy about the t-shirt, honestly. It’s a sign of the times and it’s a sign of today,” she told BAZAAR. “Because I think in this moment the sign is not only to create an unbelievable couture dress but to truly understand the environment you are in.”
