Ask anyone what Nicole Kidman and Cindy Crawford have in common and you’ll most probably hear the words beauty, elegance and confidence. These two global style icons are also the brand ambassadors of Omega, and have been for a long time: Last year saw Cindy Crawford and Nicole Kidman celebrating 20 years and 10 years with the Swiss watchmaker respectively (George Clooney, another Omega star, will celebrate his decade next year). In an industry filled with brands who go through a rolodex of celebrities regularly, this prolonged, almost familial, relationship with their superstar ambassadors can be seen as a testament to the values that Omega places front and centre to its business: Quality, continuity and discernment—which are particularly pertinent when one inspects the watches Omega rolls out year in, year out; not just for men, but women as well. As Crawford herself once pointed out in an interview: “They’d been around since the middle of the 19th century, they were famous for their sports timekeeping, their divers’ watches and, of course, their association with the space programme and all the Moon landings—a lot of stereotypically ‘guy stuff .’ But a closer look at the female watches will reveal that they are steadfast, strong and have outstanding personalities of their own—just like the Omega women.” With the women’s market gaining more momentum in recent times, Omega has also stepped up its game. Its key lines— Seamaster, Speedmaster, Constellation and Ladymatic—remain. But the female interpretations of the men’s collections are wonderfully feminine. Take its hugely successful Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M. The all-time favourite with diving buffs comes in a full-steel version with a black shimmery ceramic dial this year. Couple that with the diamond-set unidirectional bezel and the 39.5mm-wide ticker makes for a powerful presence on a woman’s wrist, without outshining the rest of her look. They also did a movement upgrade with the new Master Chronometer Calibre 8800.

For ladies who prefer a more refined sports-luxe ticker, have a look at the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m. The 34mm-wide piece is super for sporty casual weekends, thanks to its easy elegance that goes with any outfit. To ease style conundrums, the Swiss marque provides women with a range of choices that sees full steel and bi-colour versions (with yellow and its proprietary Sedna gold) being offered with diamond options and coloured mother-of-pearl dials, finished with either a gleaming bracelet or smart leather strap. Then, there’s the Constellation Master Chronometer Small Seconds. Timeless and refined, the watch pairs as well with a Le Smoking tuxedo suit as it does a cocktail dress. Modern and streamlined, its distinctive steel and red gold case hugs a woman’s wrists with a natural fit, while a mother-of-pearl dial and glittering diamonds make it an instant winner. This Constellation piece also made history by being the first women’s watch to house a Master Chronometer movement—a nod to connoisseurs looking for reliability and precision in their watches. Named as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Omega also has an altruistic side to its sports involvement: An impressive charity partnership with Viva Rio, a non-profit organisation that promotes social inclusion around the world, to conduct 12 projects to give back to the Rio society and community. Called #OMEGAVIVARIO, the initiative is part of the countdown to the Games—an extra step that Omega is implementing on top of the traditional clock counter that’s installed in the host city. Some of the projects include helping vulnerable mothers living in the violent neighbourhood of Costa Barros, and furnishing and maintaining a new education space at Cantagalo. It is Omega’s way of planting the seeds for a better future for the children of Rio de Janeiro. Gorgeous wrist candies from an esteemed watch brand that gives back to the community.
