The genius of Alessandro Michele has breathed new life into the old at Gucci. First launched in the ’70s by the house’s founder Guccio Gucci, the Marmont bag has been reimagined by Michele, this time in the most unexpected of fabrics. More often associated with traditional cheongsams and the upholstery of antique rosewood chairs, in Michele’s hands, kitschy brocade has undergone a makeover, brimming with the whimsical nostalgia that has become his signature. And the wonderful piece de resistance? The brass GG logo. Said Michele, “The double G is like a hieroglyph that everyone knows and I use it as the cherry on top of my designs.” ■ The GG Marmont bag is $2,420 and available at Gucci, #B1-109 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (Tel: 6688 7878)
