The Damen SeaXplorer range of 65m to 100m expedition yachts promises life-changing encounters for those who dream of discovering the world beyond limits.
The entrepreneurial SeaXplorer project is the world’s first range of purpose-built private expedition yachts to comply with the United Nations International Maritime Organization’s Polar Code B category. The three yachts in the 65m to 100m SeaXplorer range can reach the planet’s most spectacular and remote polar and tropical areas.
To create the new range, Damen – one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups – brought in the experts at EYOS Expeditions for real expedition pedigree and invaluable operational design input.
“Reaching a place like Papua New Guinea or Antarctica is a truly unforgettable experience,” says EYOS Expeditions CEO Ben Lyons. “Only when you have been there yourself can you really understand how life-changing expedition yachting is. As more people go, and then talk to their friends, this market will grow. And our experience is that private expedition clients also become passionate ambassadors for protecting these unique environments and cultures.”
There are several areas that make the Damen SeaXplorer different. Global autonomy: It’s not how far you can go, it’s how long. SeaXplorer has full luxury service for 40 days of autonomy without port call.
Optimising the SeaXplorer bow for Polar Class icebreaking would have directly compromised the seagoing behaviour, so Damen decided on a double acting hull. This means the SeaXplorer has a stern optimised for icebreaking conditions, while the bow benefits from its stable and comfortable SEA AXE design.
Helicopters are essential expedition equipment. The SeaXplorer has a fully enclosed helicopter hangar for up to two 6-tonne class helicopters.
Expedition gear such as private submersibles (garage and launch system), dive centre with recompression chamber, divemaster workshop, 12-metre dive support tender, and a whole selection of tenders and toys.
Never miss a chance encounter: Dry and comfortable on the water within minutes after spotting a pod of humpback whales, etc.
Views, views, views: Enjoy spectacular vantage points from the large observation lounge with skylights and large windows, plus SeaXplorer’s unique outdoor bow point observation deck.
All three yachts in the range comply with the stringent new environmental and safety standards in the IMO Polar Code’s ‘B’ category necessary for the real expedition experience in Arctic and Antarctic waters from 1 January 2017.
