1. The duo-toned, tessellated check with 19th century Scottish roots is having a huge moment in Fall/Winter 2019. Brands ranging from Chanel to Gucci to Richard Quinn have literally made it bigger, then applied it to pant- and skirt-suits for a hyper-graphic, head-to-toe look that would no doubt appeal to the vintage-inclined Instagram generation.

ELEMENTS OF VOGUE
Remembering ’90s glamour with Max Mara’s empowering new collection.
Glamour in the ’90s – best defined by the decade’s supermodels – came with a womanly confidence that many say is long gone from fashion. To bring it back, Max Mara put scenes from its own shows from that era on its F/W ’19 Mood Board, then sent out a presentation that brought on the nostalgia. Cara Taylor in a tone-on-tone yellow skirt suit; her jacket shoulders boxy, her stride cool and composed – thanks to the above-the-knee skirt that lets her move with ease. Joan Smalls and Irina Shayk looking sharp and purposeful in all-black tailored workwear updated with handy cargo pockets. Kaia Gerber in a commanding yet practical oat-hued teddy coat – the spitting image of her mum. The best part about ’90s Glamour: it was innate – with your wardrobe meant simply to bring out the best of you.
