A total of $1.03 million was raised at the Singapore Island Country Club’s (SICC’s) 48th May Day Charity on May 1, with the funds going to 21 group benefi ciaries including those helping the children, the elderly and the disabled.

The charity golf tournament saw close to 530 golfers vying for hole-in-one car prizes on the club’s golf courses, while the gala dinner held at the Island Clubhouse’s grand ballroom was attended by 230 donors. President Halimah Yacob, the charity’s patron, graced the occasion. Highlights included a traditional Malay dance by the Ain Society, a benefi ciary of this year’s event; a musical performance by 10-year-old ukulele prodigy Jordin Tan; and a stand-up comedy segment by Fakkah Fuzz.

On May 11, the Eurasian Association held its charity fund-raising dinner at JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach, where over $500,000 was raised for the association’s work in improving the lives of the underprivileged in the Eurasian community. Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam graced the event as guest of honour.
