On the page opposite is a smear of Giorgio Armani’s Power Fabric Foundation Balm ($120). We literally ran a knife through it, then spread it out to show that despite being packaged as a cushion, it’s as creamy as whipped butter. This means it goes on smooth only to impart an imperfection blurring, velvety finish said to be sweat- and humidity resistant. It also has the oilabsorbing agent Perlite to minimise shine. On this page: Sulwhasoo’s pink-based (read: brightening) Sheer Lasting Gel Cushion ($76), which – as its names suggests– also comes in a compact. With sea buckthorn fruit and other antioxidising ingredients, it goes on evenly thanks to its slightly aqueous texture and a micro mesh across its surface, leaving a natural, luminous finish. Sounds like it’s about time we thought of new ways to describe foundation formulas. For now, we’ll go with “innovative”. – SK
