THE NEXT COLLECTIBLE MERCH: COACH’S DISNEY COLLAB – THE RETRO EDITION

Can we deal with another tie-up with the omnipresent cartoon studio following last year’s overload of launches celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday and takeover of Orchard Road’s Christmas light-up with his pals?

Can we deal with another tie-up with the omnipresent cartoon studio following last year’s overload of launches celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday and takeover of Orchard Road’s Christmas light-up with his pals? Yes, when the characters hail from some of its earliest (read: alien to Gen Z) and most emotional (read: very Gen Z) full-length animated films. Including sweatshirts, totes and handbags, the capsule line features the pre-CGI stars of Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942), Alice in Wonderland (1951), 101 Dalmatians (1961) and The Aristocats (1970) as prints and embroidery, which should feel novel to those aged under 24, and nostalgic to those older. THE OFF-DUTY MUST-HAVE: THE MODERN SARONG

The only type of “sarong party” we’d endorse: this season’s range of long, straight wrap-around skirts that befit a cool club as much as a long weekend in Bali. Balenciaga’s, for example, comes in lustrous, monochromatic silk; Dries van Noten’s features a statement mishmash of botanical prints, stripes and checks; while the elegant, sculptural lines on Yohji Yamamoto’s all-black rendition lend a couture quality. Pair with a top that’ll transition as easily from day to night, and you’ll have relaxed sophistication mastered (psst... the skirts come pre-wrapped with zips). It’s about time we rethink the term “SPG”.  – IJ

THE EVENING POWER PIECE: SAINT LAURENT’S ELEVATED BODYSUIT

Anyone who’s watched the brand’s Fashion Week show live since Anthony Vaccarello came on board as creative director knows to expect an electrifying finale meant to epitomise the height of Parisian night-time glamour. This S/S ’19, that came in the form of a parade of bodysuits that are anything but basic wardrobe underpinnings. Made of luxurious georgette, they come covered in sequins, slashed artfully (and tastefully) to titillate, or padded with power shoulders. More Beyonce Formation Tour than Single Ladies, they’re so liberally, unapologetically sexy and head-turning that they were shown in their full glory (no bottoms!) on the catwalk. We’re not sure if the styling will catch on – one of this season’s classic, high-waisted pants would pair well – but we’re pretty sure that the attitude (and copycats) will. $4,570–$6,000 each – IJ
