THE GAME CHANGER: A STATEMENT CARDIGAN

To paraphrase a certain rap sensation whose stage name happens to be an abbreviation of the garment in focus here, this is the kind of button-down knit sweater that “makes money moves”. Gucci’s (above right) for example is designed like a classic tweed jacket – except that it isn’t tailored. Miu Miu’s (below right) is like a grown-up version of the preppy argyle knit, extended to sweep the ankles and dotted with crystals. MSGM (below left) refi nes the kind of fuzzy outers associated with the ’80s – still loud on colours and patterns, but minus the kitsch. Yep, the granny sweater is now the pop-star sweater. Throw it on and you’ll be “the hottest in the street”. Cardi B would approve. – NL
