THE ARTY ACCENT: ABSTRACT PEARL JEWELLERY

Imagine what happens when the now trending “dad”/ monstrous aesthetic crosses over into usually refined bijoux.

Imagine what happens when the now trending “dad”/ monstrous aesthetic crosses over into usually refined bijoux. At Lauren Khoo, chandelier earrings come with beaded jellyfish tentacles, and diamond-studded rings, whopper-sized baroque pearls – all inspired by the local luxury jeweller’s love for weird and wonderful deep sea creatures. The homegrown State Property adds giant pins and transformable necklaces to its existing line of minimalist, industrial-inspired Akoya and Tahitian pearl designs. Even Mikimoto, the grand dame of pearl jewellery, gets organic with its latest high jewellery collection: a lariat necklace of baroque pearls meant to resemble a chain of oysters. The best part about them: They somehow all still look pretty. – IJ
