UNLIKE THE 2019 MATT DAMON SCI-FI SATIRE, THESE “SHRUNKEN” BAGS SHOWCASED ON THE S/S ’20 RUNWAYS DON’T CLAIM TO REDUCE MAN’S ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OR INCREASE ONE’S WEALTH. WHAT THEY DO GET RIGHT AND THE FILM DIDN’T: PRACTICALITY AND RELEVANCE ALL WHILE BLOWING UP ONE’S FASHION FACTOR.

BURBERRY’S MONOGRAM MOTIF CARD CASE: This accordion-style leather wallet packs five card slots and a zip coin pocket in a compact 10x6cm size while its equestrian-inspired tab keeps contents secure. How it was paraded on the runway – it was the only accessory on model Rebecca Leigh Longendyke as she marched down in a work-to-cocktail-appropriate sheath – served as a reminder of our cashless culture and offers a whole new proposition to modern dressing.

LONGCHAMP’S LE PLIAGE NANO BAG: The French maison creates the tiniest and trendiest version of its famous Le Pliage tote in slick embossed leather without cutting back on the thoughtful details that made the original version so well-loved. Measuring 8.5x7.5x5.5cm, it’s wide enough for cards; deep enough for a little more; and is accompanied by a removable carabiner leather strap that allows one to attach it to other bags or carry it as a wristlet.

FENDI’S PICO BAGUETTE: Combining two of the hottest bag trends among street style stars/aspirants – teeny, tiny sizes and beaded finishes – this little number that the brand claims to be “the smallest pouch existing on earth” might seem purely decorative. But at 4x4cm with the Baguette’s signature flap, it’s exactly what fashion fiends need to store their Airpods while its long metal chain means it doubles as a necklace or bracelet.

DOLCE & GABBANA DG GIRLS MICRO BAG BRACELET: The Italian luxury label combines a tiny coins/Airpods-perfect spin on its fun-meets-feminine DG Girls shoulder bag – distinguished by its Baroque-style logo hardware – with a cuff and invents a new SLG category that we’re dubbing “wallet on wrist”. Going hands-free just got chicer.
