Barefaced Beauty

Going barefaced doesn’t mean zero makeup. We’re talking about a pared-down yet polished look – your skin, only better! However, it takes skilled fingers and product know-how to create this “effortless” beauty.

1. Skin prep

Hydrated skin has an undeniable radiance, so massage in some moisturiser after cleansing. Wait for five minutes, then blot with a tissue.

2. Prime time

Minimise imperfections and allow smoother foundation and makeup application with a primer. It also gives your makeup something to hold on to, so it lasts longer.

3. Second skin

Less is more when it comes to foundation, so study your face, and apply it on areas that need it most, blending it out on the rest of your face. Using a damp sponge will help create a softer finish.

4. Shine on

Use a highlighter to add depth to areas that need it, and shine on places where the light hits such as the chin and top of cheekbones.

5. Groom and define them brows

To complement your barefaced look, keep your brows in place with a brow gel. If you have sparse brows, lightly colour them in with a brow pencil using feathering strokes.

6. Pretty flush

The best way to give your skin a healthy look is to give your cheeks a light flush. Stains work best in this case as they give the loveliest effect without looking OTT.

7. Bright eyes

So you want a glow, but you don’t have it because of all those long days and late nights at the office. Here’s the trick: blend in a bit of concealer or eye corrector to minimise shadows under the eyes and deliver a refreshed, wide-eyed appearance. For a less gloopy finish, dab with a makeup brush, and then with a sponge.

8. Soft lips

Slippery, sticky glosses? Forget about them for now, because a simple lip balm is all you need to finish the look here. Just make sure you do the prep work so your lips aren’t chapped and peeling. Dabbing on a reliable balm (or even a tiny bit of eye cream for its deep moisturising benefits) and a hint of colour will do the trick.

Skin this good

These celebs have truly mastered the barefaced makeup look. Our beauty goal? To get the same dewy skin that looks flattering at every angle.

1 It’s no wonder that Prince Harry fell for British actress Cressida Bonas way back then; check out her clear, radiant complexion!

2 Due to her busy schedule, Kate Hudson keeps it simple: “After cleansing, I put a moisturiser on and let it soak in before doing anything else.”

3 You guessed it – Taylor Swift keeps her routine fussfree. She’s said she uses drugstore products and just slaps on a night cream.
