But First, Coffee

This month, Singaporeans’ favourite weekend activity (cafe-hopping, if you had to ask) goes up a notch with the annual Singapore Coffee Festival (Aug 4-6) at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre. The event celebrates the city’s vibrant coffee culture with a curation of the island’s best roasters and hipster cafes. And what better way to single out our favourites than by showing them off alongside the season’s standout accessories and jewellery?

My Reading Room

1. Curious Palette

Aside from its award-winning latte art brews, the cafe will debut its coffee soft serve at the festival, together with a range of bottled caffeinated and decaffeinated infusions. The one we’re most excited about? White Magic: a potent blend of espresso, milk and cream chilled to perfection.

2. Common Man Coffee

Roasters It’s well known for its smooth coffee and brunch menu, which makes it the booth to swing by for nibbles. Sample new desserts (from indulgent to healthy) at the festival: the peanut butter and cranberry with espresso energy ball for that kick of caffeine, or the summer chia seed pudding for the perfect guilt-free pick-me-up.

3. Chye Seng Huat Hardware

This hipster hangout is one of the forerunners of Singapore’s third- wave coffee scene, and its single- origin cold brews promise to be one of the highlights at the festival. Only African beans (from Ethiopia, Rwanda etc) are used – they are brewed daily and steeped for 12 hours to achieve a potent but smooth overall flavour.
