Akari Japanese Dining & Bar
With its cosy bamboo-themed interior, you’ll feel as if you’re being transported to Japan when you step into Akari Japanese Dining & Bar. Our favourite dish here is Yamato Ebi Zou-Sai, $28, a hearty lobster porridge that features an entire rock lobster in a robust umami broth. If you have room for dessert, go for Tofu Teppan Gratin, $12. Reminiscent of a bread pudding, this dish comes with a creamy homemade sauce that complements a generous portion of fruits that sit atop a block of silky tofu – just the sweet ending you need.
Akari Japanese Dining & Bar is at #01-02, 8A Marina Boulevard. Tel: 6634 0100
510 Sake Bar
510 Sake Bar’s contemporary interpretations of sushi are not just intriguing, but really tasty too. While we were impressed by the Pulled Pork Maki, it’s the Blue Cheese Beef Maki, $10, that started a party in our mouths. Each serving comes with juicy shredded beef and a generous chunk of blue cheese. If you’re worried about the latter’s overpowering flavour, rest assured that it’s perfectly tempered by the other ingredients.
510 Sake Bar is at 273 Thomson Road, Novena Gardens. Tel: 6256 0261
Menya Takeichi
Made by simmering fresh chicken meat and feet for hours, Special Ramen, $15.50, reminds us of the bowl of comforting chicken soup that we crave for when we’re down with the flu – but at a much higher intensity. It might be a tad overwhelming for those who aren’t used to such a full-bodied flavour, but thankfully, you’ll find a flask of clear bonito soup that you can add to your soup on your table.
Menya Takeichi is at #03-313, Suntec City Mall. Tel: 6235 3386
