Silence Is Golden

If you live in a noisy neighbourhood, it’s time to take better care of your heart. Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, the US, found that chronic din from traffic and planes can up your risk of suffering a heart attack, stroke or other cardiovascular problems by three times as compared to people who have lower levels of noise exposure. Increased brain activity from the noise appears to trigger the release of hormones that cause inflammation in the arteries. While the study is considered preliminary, the researchers recommend countering these effects with stress reducing activities like yoga, meditation or aerobic exercise. You can also install sound-absorbing panels at home where possible.
