Coughing Conundrum

Curb that cough before you board the plane, or death stares and frowns are going to ruin your vacation.

Planning your holiday itinerary can stress you out. Your throat has been on a silent protest for the past week and the soreness has, unfortunately, deteriorated into a violent dry cough. Water isn’t helping, and you can’t take your cough syrup onto the plane. You don’t want to be labelled an in-flight nuisance, but the cold and dry air in the plane is aggravating your throat. It’s also difficult to take a nap – let alone sleep through a long-haul flight – because you’re constantly coughing away. The worst part of it? Everyone can hear you, even when they’re tuned into Bohemian Rhapsody . It can get pretty embarrassing.

Grab a pack of DURO-TUSS Dry Cough before you board. With 24 lozenges in a box small enough to fit into your coat pocket, you’ll make it through airport security with no problem at all. You won’t even have to go to the trouble of transferring any liquid into a 100ml bottle, then risk spilling it all over your lap in the plane.

Pholcodine, a cough suppressant, is an active ingredient in DURO-TUSS Dry Cough lozenges. These lozenges are also the only DURO-TUSS product with cetylpyridinium chloride (it has an antibacterial effect against germs associated with sore throats). “It can stop irritation in the throat by suppressing coughs and soothing sore throats,” explains Dr Low Chin Yong from First Care Family Clinic & Surgery.

The fresh-orange flavour takes away the medicinal taste. And the lozenges accommodate most dietary requirements as they are free of sugar, lactose and gluten (not that you should be having any of those while you’re coughing).

Find relief with DURO-TUSS and you’re ready to take off with ease.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DRY COUGH AND A WET COUGH?

My Reading Room

• A dry cough doesn’t produce phlegm or mucus. It’s most likely caused by viruses, infection, pollutants in the air, and asthma. It could also be brought on by medication such as angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.

My Reading Room

• A wet cough can be caused by viruses and bacteria, smoking, lung infections and other conditions which can cause phlegm. It is also known as a productive cough. “In my practice, the remedy is to use an expectorant (a syrup or other medication), which helps to liquefy the phlegm,” says Dr Low.
