Hands up if you find Christmas both exciting and tiring? Trust us, we feel you. While it’s a time for merrymaking with loved ones, it’s natural to feel swamped as you prep for this big holiday. You’ve got to shop for gifts, cook a turkey, make sure you fit into your party outfits… and the list goes on! Thankfully, these tips will help you survive the festive season with ease and in good shape.

EXERCISE RIGHT

Working out regularly ensures that you’ll be able to indulge in those delicious Christmas goodies with less guilt. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) recommends that you clock 150 minutes of physical activity a week.

If time is a consideration, do high-intensity interval training (HIIT) instead of other workouts. It involves intense bursts of exercise with short recovery periods in between. This type of workout burns fat more effectively as well as boosts your metabolic rate.

When you’re exercising a lot, you have to make sure that your joint health is maintained. Take Borsch Med All In 1 Formula for Joints. This complete supplement has glucosamine, collagen, chondroitin, and rose hip extract to help improve the flexibility of your joints, repair worn-out cartilage and relieve inflammation.

It comes in a powder form to mix into your favourite drink. Get the convenient sachet packs (now $45 for a box of 21; UP: $62), so you can drink it on the go.

EAT WELL

A balanced diet consists of all the food groups in varying quantities. According to the HPB’s My Healthy Plate guide, you should fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables, a quarter with whole grains, and the other quarter with meat or other protein sources such as eggs or seafood.

This is possible on a regular day, but it is nearly impossible during the festive season. Fret not. You should be able to eat as you wish during Christmas gatherings. One trick is to take dainty bites – and we mean dainty!

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that people who took bites about the size of a tablespoon ate 25 percent more at a meal than those who took teaspoonsful. In short, smaller mouthfuls slow down the pace of a meal.

For additional help, turn to Borsch Med Bind&Block FAT (now $42 for a box of 30 sachets; UP: $49). This weight management supplement limits the amount of calories you take. Its active ingredient, chitosan – an indigestible fibre from shellfish – helps to prevent your body from absorbing fat. The fat is then passed out of your system naturally when you move your bowels. To use, consume one sachet half an hour before tucking into a hearty meal.

GET HEALTHY SKIN

You’ll have parties to attend and might even be hosting some of your own. Of course, you’ll want to look gorgeous at all of them.

Make sure your skincare regime has all the essentials so your complexion is in tip-top condition. Cleanse, tone and moisturise twice daily, and apply sunscreen during the day. Remember to keep your skin hydrated, too, because hydrated skin looks more youthful. On top of using a good moisturiser, drink eight glasses of water every day.

Then also drink New Moon Inner Radiance Collagen Drink (now $79 for two boxes (10 bottles x 50ml); UP: $79 per box). This award-winning health drink contains a whopping 13,000mg of collagen that aids in firming skin. Other star ingredients include glutathione, which has whitening properties, and antioxidant-rich maqui berry extract to keep skin looking youthful. For best results, drink a bottle of this fruit-flavoured drink daily before you go to bed.

All products are available islandwide at Watsons, Guardian, FairPrice and Unity Stores. Promotional prices are valid till Jan 3, 2018. Terms & conditions apply, while stocks last.
