Not all facials are created equal. While many are designed to tackle a single problem – acne or dehydration, for example – the HydraFacial MD 5 Steps ($276 for 75min) by The Wellness Suite, a Singapore Medical Group (SMG) clinic, is different. Anchored by the HydraFacial device, which utilises Vortex technology to infuse products into skin and has changeable tips, the treatment gives the skin a deep cleanse. It also exfoliates, purifies, clarifies, hydrates and protects skin.

Step one is a deep cleanse that involves the infusion of nutrient-rich solutions that hydrate the skin, as well as soften the sebum, dead skin cells and impurities stuck in pores.

Step two combines a gentle acid peel – this further loosens the gunk clogging pores without irritating the skin – and the use of a Hydropeel tip that has multiple edges to exfoliate skin.

Step three, which specifically addresses oily and congested skin, is where extraction takes place. Beta-hydroxy acids are used to dissolve sebum and painlessly dislodge impurities, all of which are then sucked away by the Vortex-Fusion tip. The device can also painlessly extract blackheads.

Next up: hydration, in the form of the peptide serum DermaBuilder, which is said to also stimulate collagen and elastin production to firm skin and reduce the look of wrinkles.

To wrap things up, a hyaluronic acid serum formulated with antioxidants – think vitamins A and E, and white tea extract – is infused into the skin to protect it from external aggressors such as free radicals and pollutants.

The treatment is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
