THE CONVENIENCE
“First up – why should you download the Suntec City mobile app? Well, it’s an essential component of the mall’s Suntec Rewards programme, a cardless loyalty scheme that’s also free to join!
Basically, you don’t need to carry any plastic or paper vouchers. Instead, you open the app and flash your e-membership card in stores for deals. You can also use it to instantly redeem vouchers and promotions, which are credited into your ‘e-wallet’.
Using the app, I signed up for the programme and got my e-membership card in under five minutes.
Curious to see if mall tenants were ‘with the game’, I flashed this card at three shops offering members’ deals over a week. They were all responsive and offered the promised discounts without question – easy!”
TIP: “To get more out of your membership, follow the Suntec Rewards Facebook page for promo codes which you can key into the app – I scored a free children’s e-ticket to the Alive Museum.”
THE PERKS
“The app tells you which tenants offer members’ perks – think discounts and one-for-one promotions. At the time of writing, I counted 70 tenants that were on board.
Surprisingly, most of the deals come without onerous fine print. Several brands offer discounts without a minimum spend, including New Balance (20 percent off regular performance products!) and Owndays ($20 off prescription glasses), though selected items may be excluded.
During mealtimes, I found myself choosing eateries based on whether they had members’ benefits. That’s how I discovered meat specialist Eat at Seven: Nikunohi, which was offering 20 percent off its a la carte menu. Score!”
TIP: “Some of the better deals are with newer brands, so keep an open mind when shopping.”
THE POINTS
“I’m a shopaholic, and it helps that my spending at Suntec City can be converted into points, and subsequently redeemed for e-vouchers in denominations of $5, $10 and $50. I just uploaded photos of my receipts via the app, and waited for points to be credited into my e-wallet. My receipts took just three to four days to be processed – colour me surprised!
Here are the rates at which you can earn points:
$1 of general spending = 5 points
$1 of F&B spending = 3 points
$1 of supermarket spending = 1 point
To redeem a $5 e-voucher, you have to earn 5,000 points, or $1,000 of general spending. That sounds like a lot, but there are shortcuts. Look for promotions such as this year’s Great Singapore Sale, when the mall offered an accelerated points accrual rate of x5. So, if you spend about $100 on dining, instead of getting just 300 points, you could rack up 1,500!”
TIP: “You must submit receipts with a minimum spend of $20 to earn points, so consolidate your purchases.”
