The National History Museum (NHM) is one of the most distinguished centers of natural history and research in the world.

The museum first opened in 1881, but its origins date back to 1753.

It houses more than 80 million specimens that span millions of years of natural history, from enormous dinosaur skeletons to blue whales to gemstones and minerals.

The building itself is considered an iconic landmark – a “cathedral to nature” that’s a beautiful example of classical Romanesque architecture.

The NHM is one of three major museums on the same road, so when you’re done visiting, you can drop by the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum next door.
