FALL FANTASTIC

Organised in collaboration with Her World, Escapades saw shoppers being treated to a series of styling workshops and exclusive shopping events at various stores throughout October 2016. A month-long wanderlust-themed fashion installation on the third floor of the mall added to the excitement, with clips of scenic Bhutan showcased alongside travel-friendly looks from various fashion houses, and virtual front-row views of Carven’s and DKNY’s Fall/Winter runway shows. One of the highlights was Autumn Winter Illuminated, an exclusive light show at ION Sky that told the story of the F/W season. And to top it off: the Kenzo x H&M private launch party, held at ION Sky on Oct 31, where fans of the brands could get their hands on the collection before it was launched at the Singapore outlets.

THE HAPPIEST KINGDOM COMES TO TOWN

From Oct 18 to 31, 2016, the “Discover Breathtaking Bhutan” fair co-organised by Druk Asia transported shoppers momentarily to The Happiest Kingdom on Earth. Visitors to the fair at the B4 Atrium were encouraged to try Bhutanese national costumes and food, take selfies at the Iron Chain Bridge photowall, snap up unique handicrafts and souvenirs, and watch a royal textile artisan at work. Dance performances and an art exhibit – with Bhutanese artists on hand to walk visitors through their works – completed the cultural experience.

’TIS THE SEASON
A “Season of Resplendence” saw ION² transformed into a fantasy land for Christmas, with a 20m-tall outdoor Christmas tree decorated by Tiffany & Co., a glittering labyrinth, as well as larger-thanlife reindeer, toy soldiers and penguins. The dazzling display nabbed the mall the Orchard Road Business Association’s Best Dressed Building – Judges’ Choice Award, beating nine other malls for the honour. Besides the spectacular outdoor display, ION Orchard also heightened the holiday mood with a cappella and live harpist performances, plus a new holiday scent to complement the mall’s signature fragrance.
As in previous years, ION Orchard gave back by supporting Rainbow Centre via a donation drive benefiting the Community Chest. The mall was also a proud supporter of Rainbow Centre’s Rainbow CHAIRity project, where special needs students, together with artists, decorated 55 child-sized Louis chairs to raise funds for the centre’s extension building. Selected pieces were displayed on Level 3 and the ION Art gallery on Level 4

ART MOVEMENT

As part of its efforts to support the local arts scene, ION Orchard held two key events last Fall/Winter. From Sept 1 to 20, four artists from the fourth edition of the Young Talent Programme presented their first solo exhibitions. The culmination of nearly a year’s worth of dedication, preparation and hard work, This Too Shall Pass by Chong Yanhong, Old Dutch House by Holeng, Beyond Bittersweet by Justin Lim and A Quiet Beauty by Yeo Jian Long were created in consultation with programme curator Seah Tzi-Yan.

From Oct 6 to 23, art aficionados were also treated to the mall’s signature photography showcase, which focuses on supporting and recognising mid-career and established local photographers’ work. The third instalment of the ION Art Photography Series featured Singapore Streetscapes as its theme, highlighting the richness and diversity of Singapore’s unique subcultures through the lenses of notable Singapore photographers Aik Beng Chia and Mark Teo.
