THE 12TH ASIA BOATING AWARDS organised by Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines were presented during a luxurious gala at ONE°15 Marina Club on the opening night of the Singapore Yacht Show (April 7-10).

The nearly 200 invited guests included many industry leaders from around the world. They were entertained by Singaporean magician Jeremy Tan, a sand art performance, live band, and Brazilian Samba dancers. The sponsors included trophy maker Baccarat, venue host ONE°15 Marina Club, and Oyster Bay Winery.

The prestigious Asia Boating Awards were presented in 25 categories, showcasing Asian builders and international brands, as well as Asian regattas and marinas.

This year the nomination criteria were refined and categories streamlined for each award. There were also four new categories – Best Multihull Motor Yacht, Best Multihull Sailing Yacht, Best Asian Yacht Refit and Best Asian Boat Show – due to popular demand and industry trends.

“We handed out 25 Asia Boating Awards – the most ever – in Singapore this year. I congratulate all of the winners, as well as the several hundred nominees. These brands, builders, yacht clubs, marinas, companies and people from the region and around the world are working very hard to meet the needs of the growing number of boaters in Asia Pacific,” says Glen Watson, Editor-in-chief of Asia-Pacific Boating magazine.

The list of nominees came from online polling of Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating readers, with the winners determined by a panel of judges selected for their expertise as well as their ability to make informed, impartial decisions.

“This year, the four new categories gave us the opportunity to look deep into the boat shows, catamarans and refit boat market. There were a lot of new nominees this time and the competition for the awards was keen. The 2016 Asia Boating Awards in Singapore was an exciting night of celebration with all the nominees and winners who put in so much effort throughout the year,” says China Boating Editor-in-chief Samuel Xu.

Best Semi Custom Built Yacht (25m and above)

AMELS, MADAME KATE, The Netherlands

“The Asia-Pacific region has been rumbling for some time but this is the year we really see it taking off for AMELS superyacht ownership. That was widely confirmed at the Singapore Yacht Show where we were delighted to welcome very prominent individuals from the Asia-Pacific region on board La Familia. They all immediately recognised and appreciated the remarkably high quality and finish that you expect from top Dutch yacht building, but with the speed of delivery, low risk and high value that only AMELS can offer. These individuals want to go straight to the very highest level of superyacht ownership and AMELS is at the top of their list.”

Personality of the Year

Carla Demaria

“It’s with the utmost pleasure that I receive this award here in Singapore, a part of the world that is strategically vital to any company operating in the nautical sector. A critical element of Monte Caro Yachts’ success has been to have a clear development plan for this region from the very beginning, which has, amongst other results, secured the support from Asia’s largest brokering firm, Simpson Marine. Finally, I’d like to share this Asia Boating Award with my team, because it is inevitably the result of great team work.”
