THAILAND-BASED DEALERS Lee Marine and Boat Lagoon Yachting, and Australia’s Multihull Solutions are among leading brands to commit early to the third Thailand Yacht Show, which will be held from December 14-17 and feature a new set-up and schedule of events including world-class racing.

Joshua Lee, Managing Director of Lee Marine and Personality of the Year at the 2017 Asia Boating Awards, confirmed his company would again participate in the four-day show, which will be held at Phuket’s Ao Po Grand Marina for a third straight edition.

“We see TYS becoming the major large-yacht show in the region and we will be fully supporting the event going forward,” said Lee, who founded Lee Marine in 1997.

Boat Lagoon Yachting, a dealer for Princess Yachts since 1994 and which represents other major brands including Jeanneau Yachts, will increase its exhibition space this year after its huge display at the recent Singapore Yacht Show.

Vrit Yongsakul, Group Managing Director, said: “For us, the Thailand Yacht Show is without a doubt the only important marine event in Thailand, where we have had successful results, and as such we will be significantly increasing our display space.

“The event’s timing and new format allows us to organise VIP and customer sea trials in the morning and even during the show itself. This is an excellent and unique way to showcase the marine lifestyle we are promoting, while opening up to the public in the afternoon and evening.”

Andrew de Bruin, Managing Director of Multihull Solutions Asia, was also enthusiastic about the show, which last December featured 45 yachts including 15 superyachts.

“We are really pleased with the way the Thailand Yacht Show has quickly become so important – 45 yachts in the first year was unbelievable,” De Bruin said.

In a bid to create a ‘360-degree experiential event’, organisers have laid out a series of major changes to the show’s set-up and format. The exhibition pavilion will be replaced by purposely-designed booths on floating platforms next to the yachts, bringing all displays together in one on-water venue. A series of sea trials and sunset cruises will make the most of Ao Po’s immediate access to popular Phang Nga Bay.

In a bid to create a ‘four-day festival of on-water lifestyle and sport’, plans are underway for four world championship events – P1 powerboat racing, foiling catamaran yacht racing, stand-up paddle boarding and kite-surfing. Spectators will be able to experience the action up close from a large new viewing platform being created on top of the breakwater surrounding the marina.

Andy Treadwell, CEO of show organiser 3L Events (Thailand), said: “Ao Po Grand Marina is the perfect venue for an experiential show aimed at attracting newcomers to the boating lifestyle from all over Asia.

“Our venue partners share our vision and will create a 300m-long viewing platform on top of the marina’s breakwater, which will provide a unique visitor experience from which to enjoy some new world-class events.”

Organisers plan to create a watersports festival with a number of activities and events each morning, while from 3.00pm to 10.00pm the show will be open to the public, who can enjoy watersports demonstrations and try-outs.

Working with partners in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and across the region, organisers will also host exclusive VIP programmes for guests to experience the yachting lifestyle.
