CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD YACHT RACE – LEGS 2 & 3

LEGS 2 AND 3 OF THE 40,000-nautical-mile Clipper Round the World Yacht Race are completed, with the fleet already embarking on Leg 4. 

GREAT Britain claimed line honours in a battle across 3,400nm from Brazil to Cape Town, South Africa in the second leg of the 14-race global series. The finish played out in the dark as three teams pushed for the top spots. GREAT Britain, Derry~Londonderry~Doire and Garmin battled for the lead as they converged on Cape Town. As GREAT Britain sprinted towards the race finish off the waterfront to take the win, 

Derry~Londonderry~Doire followed with Garmin coming in third. 

LMAX Exchange claimed Leg 3 of the race, crossing the finish line first in Albany, Western Australia. The win on the 4,845nm Southern Ocean leg from Cape Town is the team’s second victory of the global series. 

The team led the race since day two, and also secured the extra maximum three Scoring Gate points available by crossing first on day 10. Derry~Londonderry~Doire took second place, after a battle with Qingdao during the final 24 hours. Qingdao finished third. 

The fleet of 12 will continue onto Sydney, Hobart, and the Whitsundays, Queensland for Leg 4 of the round-the-world race.
