ONE MINUTE WITH

YING THE LABEL
Ying, founder of local fashion label Ying The Label, takes a moment to talk shop with us

What was the inspiration behind the collection?

“The collection is titled ‘Steady Heart’, and it’s a look back at my journey over the past three years. It’s a reflection of how determination, perseverance and passion have kept me going.”

Can you walk us through your hands-on approach to printmaking?
“Yes, I am very hands-on. That is because the core of Ying comes from my passion for watercolour painting. I paint when I am happy, inspired, sad, or stressed. It is my avenue to tell my stories, and to release my emotions. The process of developing a print usually ranges from a few hours to days. I don’t stop until I’m happy with the final result.”

What sets your prints apart from other brands?
“All my paintings come with a splatter at the end – it makes me feel complete, because these splatters represent my free-spirited nature, and it adds a mysterious, yet dreamy element to all my art pieces.”

What are some of your personal favourite pieces?

“The kimonos are my favourite! Every kimono has a different print placement, so no two pieces are the same. This season, we’ve also added an accessory – the printed twilly – to our line. The twilly scarves can be used as a necklace, a headband, the options are endless!”
