Wearing the right lipstick shade can improve confidence levels by leaps and bounds. And if you master brights, you’ll love what it can do to your complexion and self-esteem (we know!). Here’s how you can determine the right shade for your skin tone:
Master The Bold Lip
Use matching lip liners to prevent lipstick from bleeding. They’re also great for helping lip colour stay on – just line, colour in the rest of the lips with the lip liner and layer lipstick on top.
Apply lip gloss in the middle of your lips for an instantly plump pout.
Makeup artists like to dab a highlighter on the cupid’s bow of the upper lip. It draws light to that area to give lips a lush, 3-D effect.
LIGHT TO MEDIUM SKIN
Choose: Pink
Lucky you! Light to medium skin tones can experiment with most lip colours, including a wide range of pinks. Choose light pink for a feminine, girly pout, or pump up the pigments for a daring, edgy look.
PALE TO FAIR SKIN
Choose: Fuchsia
Those with porcelain skin will look stunning with fuchsia pink lips. Avoid clashing with your natural skin tone by picking a pink that complements it – using warm tone lip colour on cool-tone complexion (or vice versa) would end up making skin look sallow and dull instead.
OLIVE TO TANNED SKIN
Choose: Red
Red balances out the green undertones present in darker skin to add vibrancy to the complexion. Those with darker complexion can get away with the brightest lip colours but if you’re feeling experimental, pick up a violet or magenta.
