Making Waves
She might have had enviable straight hair, but Editorial Assistant Janice Sim was aching for a change. “I’ve lived with stick-straight hair all my life and am looking forward to waking up to bouncy curls!”
To achieve this, Ronald Foo, Artist I at Kim Robinson, gave her hair long layers and permed it. “Previously, her hair was one length, so it looked very heavy. Janice has a nice, sharp face shape, so the volume from the curls would play up her features nicely.”
“I love the new volume in my hair. Plus, the curls really help to bring out the subtle colour of my highlights,” says Janice.

Short Cuts
As a busy working mum, Senior Designer Christina Lim wanted something that looked chic but is fuss-free. “I’m a fan of short hair, and I don’t mind trying out a new cut or stronger colours,” she says.
For something a little more unusual, Annie Lam, Artist I at Kim Robinson, gave Christina an edgy look using colour and texture. “I love the idea of something having a strong shape but soft ‘feel’. An ash blue colour, together with more volume on top, evokes the imagery of a soft breeze blowing through the tresses,” Annie explains.
“Many colleagues and friends could not recognise me when they saw me after my cut and colour! It’s a refreshing change and it updates my overall appearance. Changing my hair colour is my first bold step to embracing the New Year.”

Pump Up The Volume
Designer Xu Mei Yan has had the same hairstyle for years. Even though she wanted to keep the length, she felt her usual cut looked a bit “flat”. “I have so much hair… it can be quite unmanageable sometimes,” she laments.
“Mei Yan has enviable thick hair,” says Ryan Cheong, Artist I at Kim Robinson, “so I used it to her advantage by giving it more movement, but not thinning it out too much. I also gave her mane a pink-red undertone, as I felt this would help brighten up her complexion.”
Mei Yan’s verdict? The red is a winner. “I definitely feel like I look fresher with this new colour. My ends also look much softer as well compared to my previous style. I’m glad I managed to get more volume without having to sacrifice the length.” W
