Looking to update your hair? Here are the four hottest hair trends spotted on the Spring/Summer 2018 runways.

1. The French Bob

The bob is a timeless, iconic look that will never go out of style, as it can be cut many different ways to suit a variety of face shapes. For a number of months, the blunt one-length crop has been super popular, but stylists have showcased a way to update it for the current season – with bangs!

This classy and totally wearable Parisian look typically features a jaw-skimming cut with a full fringe, but you can easily adapt it to better flatter your features. Why not pair it with a pair of super trendy curtain bangs, as seen at Derek Lam, or opt for a side-sweeping fringe à la models at Missoni and Brandon Maxwell, that’s oh-so-slimming? Alternatively, make like Sonia Rykiel’s models and ask your stylist for a choppy, wispy brow-skimming fringe for a perfectly dishevelled look.

TIP: For those with round faces, avoid a full, blunt fringe that can look heavy and accentuate the roundness, and opt for something longer and choppier instead. Keep your crop in check with the ghd Natural Bristle Radial Brush Size 2, $45.

2. Side Show

This season’s must-have hair accessory is the humble hairpin worn at the side of the head. Hairpins come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit your look, from large statement barrettes to more minimalist ones, and are an easy and fuss-free way to instantly add a bit of sparkle to your mane. Strategically slide a matching set above each ear like the models at Versace, or hold hair down with a row of bobby pins, as seen at Sally LaPointe.

3. Bed Hair, Don’t Care

Gone are the days of precise, defined curls – rock confidently effortless, loose and laissez-faire waves that look like you’ve always had them. Models from Balmain to Philosophy channeled their best “I-woke-up-likethis” looks, only breaking the mould to change from a side to centre parting. If you have straight hair, blow-dry after washing, then use a flat iron or curler on random sections of your hair for instant volume and texture. Muss it up with your fingers or use a texturising product for hold.

TIP: Lengthen the lifespan of your waves with just a few pumps of the lightweight, texturising Kevin.Murphy Bedroom.Hair Hairspray, $40 (235 ml).

4. Squeaky Clean

Love it or hate it, the futuristic wet hair look continues to dominate, thanks to its high fashion appeal and versatility. Slicked-back strands can give you an ultra-clean and fresh look, and is a great choice for special events. For a bolder look, Jason Wu parted hair on the left and used a heavy amount of gel, while others went for a less severe look by lightly spraying and teasing hair at the crown to add some height.

TIP: For longerlasting hold and control, work the KMS Hairplay Styling Gel, $32 (200 ml), through toweldried hair and allow to air dry.
