For a brand that more often than not leans towards traditional watch making, an infrequently seen complication like a decimal striker – where a watch chimes every 10 minutes instead of every quarter – makes perfect sense in A. Lange & Sohne’s atypical Zeitwerk. The Zeitwerk Decimal Strike is the collection’s third chiming watch, and uses a lower-pitched gong for the hours and a higher one for the 10-minute intervals. While the chimes are activated en passant (“in passing” in French), it differs from a sonnerie in that it sounds only one chime regardless of what time it is. The L043.7 calibre is hand-wound and equipped with a constant force mechanism to ensure smooth timekeeping.
