My Reading Room

1 PICK A CREAM-BASED PRODUCT
If you’re going for a super-subtle finish, a cream-based sculpting kit like Estee Lauder’s New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit ($68) is the way to go. Why? Compared to most contouring powders, the creamy shades in this kit (the darker one is for contouring while the lighter one is for highlighting) have a sheerer finish that seemingly melts into skin, sans harsh brown streaks. Another bonus: You’ll get a dewy finish instead of a powdery, overly made-up one.

2 USE THE DARKER SHADE FIRST
Start by applying the deeper shade just under your cheekbones. If you want to create the illusion of a V-shaped face, apply it on the temples and jawline too. Then, using the sponge provided, blend the colour into the skin using sweeping up and down motions. The formula is buildable and very blendable, which makes it easier to apply than most contouring powders.

3 FINISH WITH THE LIGHTER SHADE
The sheer highlighting shade in the kit imparts a gorgeous, dewy glow (read: not overly sparkly) to skin. Just dab the shade directly onto the cheekbones; to make them appear even more prominent, extend the colour all the way up to the brow bones, creating a C shape. Don’t forget to apply it on your nose bridge and Cupid’s bow too – it’ll accentuate your features.
