TO REFRESH COLOURED HAIR: Mucota Scena Treatment ($170 for 90min)

One thing I hate about dyeing my hair: it always looks dull after a few weeks. Cue Mucota Scena Treatment, tailored for hair that’s damaged from colouring. The treatment started off with a wash and a scalp massage, after which a creamy treatment base with moisturising ceramides was applied. After this was washed off , a repairing treatment essence was spritzed on and a cream product was applied to seal the hair cuticles. The end result: a shiny and healthy-looking mane that felt super soft. – Jaclyn Gunasilan, associate beauty editor At Prep Luxe, #01-62 Capitol Piazza (tel: 6384-1406).

FOR A SPA LIKE EXPERIENCE: PHS Hairscience Intense Hydrating Hair Therapy ($348 for 130min)

You know you’re in for a relaxing time when a hair treatment includes a 20-minute neck-and-shoulder massage. To kick off the luxurious treatment, my therapist applied a combination of plant, fruit and essential oils on my hair – these are said to repair damage and replenish moisture – after which she gave me that shiok 20-minute massage. Next up: a rinse, followed by oxygen therapy to stimulate microcirculation in the scalp. To smooth hair cuticles, a botanical serum was applied before I got a gorgeous blowdry. My hair looked so much healthier and bouncier the entire day, and was even lightly perfumed with a fruity scent. Bonus: You’ll get to indulge in a movie or two while waiting for your hair to be done (ah... the tai-tai life). – Carina Koh, beauty writer At PHS Hairscience, #05-25A/B Ngee Ann City (tel: 6734-6776).

TO REVIVE THE LOOK OF CHEMICALLY TREATED HAIR: Shiseido Professional The Hair Care Salon Solutions (from $160, depending on hair length)

I have damaged hair, no thanks to years of chemical treatments such as dye jobs and perms. According to Shiseido Professional, these, and even daily hair washes, can cause calcium build-up, which leads to coarse and frizzy locks, so I went for a treatment that reportedly removes calcium ions and improves hair texture. It started off with a shampoo, followed by the application of two serums designed to rid tresses of calcium ions. A 10-minute steaming session, which purportedly boosts the serums’ detoxifying effects, ensued. After a rinse, an intensive hair serum and a repairing cream were slathered on to seal in the goodness. While I can’t attest to the removal of calcium ions, my hair was indeed softer and much shinier after the treatment. – Carina Call 6739-8629 for salon listings.

TO TAME COARSE, FRIZZY HAIR: L’Oreal Professionnel Pro Fiber Treatment (from $99, depending on hair length)

The coolest thing (literally) about this treatment: it involves the use of an ice iron, a device that works exactly like a hot straightening iron, except it gets cold instead of hot. The treatment started off with a relaxing shampoo, followed by the application of a primer to allow for better absorption of the reparative products. Then, the ice iron was used on my mane to seal in the product without causing heat damage. After a cold rinse, a leave-in gel conditioner was applied to my damp hair before a blow-dry. I immediately noticed an improvement in how my hair looked and felt – think sleek, shiny and silky. To maintain the look and feel of your locks, the brand recommends using haircare from its new Pro Fiber range, designed to repair all types of damaged hair, at home. – Charmaine Lee, beauty writer Call 1800-838-3388 for salon listings.
