Where LV is headed with its cruise 2016 line: palm springs! We share six must-know facts about the collection. By Ian Lee, in taipei.
1. Creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere drew inspiration from legendary entertainer Bob Hope’s modernist house in Palm Springs. And the collection’s 51 looks fall under five themes. There’s Leather Heritage with its statement belts, Hollywood Glamour and its long (leather!) dresses, Desert Road Trip with lots of olive shades and croco skin motifs, Colorama’s graphic colour blocking and Charismatic Femininity’s modern embroidery and lace details.

2. There’s a (super) limited shoe style from the Cruise 2016 collection. Meet the Sun Catcher – an embroidered lace-up with a chunky plexiglass heel. Fewer than 10 pairs are in South-east Asia.

3. Just as clever as the collection’s bags and shoes is its jewellery. A case in point is this choker made up of bejewelled charms that resemble the metal corners of Louis Vuitton’s famous trunks.

4. Yes, the collection features the iconic trunk-inspired Petite Malle, but the clutch has been given cool new looks. It’s now futuristic in see-through plexiglass or with studs, and is fun in the brand’s new Swimming Pool and Palm Tree patterns.

5. Attention, bag buffs: The accessories department has two new classics. First is the Neo Steamer tote inspired by Louis Vuitton’s iconic Steamer bag – our fave is the studded one. Next is the Monogram Canvas backpack, which comes in two sizes and has plush leather straps and handles.

6. The collection’s already got a huge celeb fan. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who starred in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., has worn at least three of Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2016 looks on the red carpet.
