Double Serum, $121 for 30ml

Combining botanical ingredients with cutting-edge science is common for many brands now, but Clarins has had decades of practice. The French brand was founded in 1954 – just three years before Metro – and has grown into an international powerhouse. Its signature product is Double Serum, launched in 1985 as the world’s first double-phase serum (it has an oil texture and a water one). The latest incarnation targets the skin’s five vital functions: hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, protection and regeneration, using 20 plant extracts, including kiwi fruit, oat sugar, green banana and lemon thyme.
