Thinking of rejuvenating your look in time for the festive season? Choose Thermage, a non-invasive, anti-ageing treatment. With minimal downtime, it uses heat to supposedly strengthen your skin’s collagen, virtually reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles and leaving you with a tighter, firmer complexion.

Recently, counterfeit Thermage machines were discovered at several local clinics and salons. Although these machines were seized, the case highlights the importance of research before undergoing any machine-administered aesthetic treatment. Genuine Thermage machines require official licences from the Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) before they’re supplied to local clinics. And Singapore’s aesthetic-treatment regulations allow only qualified medical practitioners to administer Thermage treatments.

Unlike some counterfeits, genuine Thermage machines ensure patient safety with detachable tips, designed for one-time use and manufactured using a thin material to uniformly disperse radiofrequencies across the treatment area. Even minor imperfections or excessive usage could lead to breakdown and even nasty burns.

Dr W S Heng from IDS Clinic strongly recommends that “all patients conduct adequate research and check with authorities before signing up for treatments in Singapore”. IDS Clinic doctors are all trained to administer Thermage by the appointed trainer in Singapore.
