BUN IT

The double buns on models walking the Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2016 show were inspired by Empress Cixi, who ruled China in the Qing dynasty, while those seen at Dior’s paid homage to Princess Leia of the Star Wars films. The key to nailing this look is the placement of the buns; we say keep ’em low and close to each other at the back of the head, so they’re not visible from the front, and hold them in place with lots of gel and hairspray.

BRAID AND BOX

Boxer braids (also known as cornrows) had a major moment at Fall 2016 Fashion Week, with runway models and frontrowers alike rocking them. To get the look, part your hair straight down the middle and clip one side up to keep it out of the way. On the unclipped side, separate your hair into two equal sections, then braid each one, starting from the top of the head all the way to the hair ends; secure with hair ties. Repeat on the other side, and you’re done. This utilitarian style is great for keeping hair off the face and is super chic to boot.

DO THE FRENCH TWIST

The signature Singapore Girl style is given an exaggerated twist (pun intended!) for an elegant yet fun look. Separate your hair into two equal ponytails, then twist each one into an updo. Secure with U-shaped hair pins.

GET KNOTTY

This double-knotted style looks fancy but is really easy to achieve. All you need to do: tie a basic half-knot (the one you start with when tying your shoelaces), secure with bobby pins, and repeat once. You can leave the ends of the double knot loose or tuck them in.
