H&M isn’t done with building its empire, which includes clothes, accessories and a growing homeware range (available only in overseas stores); it is now branching into skincare and cosmetics.

And for its first foray into the beauty industry, the brand puts forth a massive collection of 700 products – including nail polishes, eyeshadows, lipsticks, foundations, and a full range of hair and body products.

There are a couple of standout products, including the much-raved-about Pure Velvet Cream Blusher ($14.90), a creamy, easy-to-use blusher that gives you a natural-looking flush, and Colour Essence Eye Cream eyeshadow ($9.90), which boasts an impressive colour pay-off and stays on for hours without smudging. The Gossamer Lip Stain ($14.90) – a long-wearing sheer lippie perfect for everyday use – is another product we predict will fly off the shelves.

Worth a mention, too, is the brand’s Conscious range, comprising organic skincare, haircare and bodycare products with recycled or recyclable packaging.

The full range of H&M beauty products is available at the brand’s flagship store at Orchard Building from August. Prices start from $2.90 for a face mask.

LIP SERVICE

Aren’t you tired of lipsticks that dry out your puckers? These won’t, and we have picks for both day and night.

My Reading Room
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 03 Red Berry, $36.

Made with 100 per cent pure plant oils – such as moisturising jojoba and hazelnut oils – this offers protection from freeradical damage. We like that its gel-like texture gives pillowy-soft lips. Wear it on its own or under your favourite lipstick. Available in three hues.

My Reading Room
YSL Beauty Top Secrets 3-in-1 Lip Perfector, $55.

Get this if you want to go au naturel. It functions as a balm and a gentle peel, and enhances the natural colour of your lips. It can also be worn under lipstick for butterysoft puckers.

My Reading Room
Shiseido Rouge Rouge in RD501 Ruby Copper, $46.

We like its rich, creamy texture, which doesn’t dry out at all, although the colour fades a little after three hours. Available in 16 shades of red to suit all skin tones. For an intense, va-va-voom hue, we vote Rouge Rum Punch, a brown-red.
