My Reading Room

Living in sunny Singapore, you need all the help you can get to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which can penetrate deep into the skin to cause damage, resulting in pigmentation and dark spots, as well as accelerated skin ageing.

Fortunately,  Japanese luxury skincare brand Cosme Decorte has two new products that promise to help you out: Whitelogist Bright Express ($220 for 40ml) and Multi Protection Sun Shelter SPF50+/ PA++++ ($44 for 35g; $58 for 60g). Most effective when used in tandem, they work to minimise dark spots, as well as protect your skin from further damage the next time you’re out in the sun.

A fair chance

Whitelogist Bright Express, the latest product in the brand’s Whitelogist range, boasts Bright Equalizer, a unique complex made from a blend of  Japanese honeysuckle, saffron, common mallow and wild thyme extracts. According to the brand, this innovative ingredient doesn’t just inhibit the growth of  dark spots; it also actively destroys melanin clusters in the skin to lighten existing spots and prevent new ones from forming. How? Apparently, it transports the melanin clusters to lysosomes (organelles found inside cells), where they are broken down and then expelled from the skin.

Other powerful ingredients include Ionsome BX, capsules that contain hydroxylated phospholipids, which are great at holding water; seaweed extract, which is said to lend skin an instant radiance and enhance its translucency; and kojic acid, which reportedly works on inhibiting melanin production.

Shield your skin

For best results, use the serum with a good sunscreen. The brand’s new Multi Protection Sun Shelter SPF50+/ PA++++ offers thorough protection against both UVA and UVB rays, and also defends against dryness, pollution and other environmental stressors. The lightweight, gel-like emulsion has a range of  actives, including rosemary leaf  extract and rosemary leaf  water, which are said to have anti-ageing, antioxidant and moisture-retaining properties. The formula also has an ultra-fine particle filter designed to block out even the slightest skin stressor and the smallest pollutant.
