ON YOUR MARK
The perfect blend of cars and horology is what Richard Mille presented guests at the 5th edition of its “Art et Elégance Richard Mille” event at the Château de Chantilly. Taking place over two days in early September, the event attracted over 16,000 visitors (including racing legends like Felipe Massa, Jean Todt and Alain Prost) who gathered to watch close to 900 cars competing in the Concours d’Etat and Grand Prix des Clubs. Also on display were famous electric cars in automobile history that spanned back to 1899.

With all the movement and riotous colours happening on her models’ earlobes, we’re not surprised if attendees of Mary Katrantzou’s spring/summer 2018 presentation found themselves unable to concentrate on the clothes. Featuring earrings from her Nostalgia collection with Atelier Swarovski, the 13-piece range showcases loose crystals and Swarovski Crystal Pearls suspended within gold-plated geometric frames for a look that any style magpie can get behind.
HARD TO RESIST
If you thought you’d finally be able to ease up on your Tiffany HardWear obsession, you’re wrong. The American jeweller has just updated its popular range with two new diamond pavé designs: The white gold Ball ring whose diamond-coated globe recalls a mirror disco ball, and the large rose gold Link bracelet with a single diamond pavé link to meld urbane edge with sophisticated glamour.

WE’RE LOVING…
…Girard-Perregaux’s Cat’s Eye La Fenice. Inspired by, and named after, Venice’s beautiful opera house, the timepiece is dressed in 265 emerald- and brilliant-cut diamonds (for approximately 19.76 carats) and finished with a handpainted mother-of-pearl marquetry inlay dial—which, together with its alligator leather strap, can be personalised to its owner’s preferred colours.
BOUTON UP
Van Cleef & Arpels’ Bouton d’Or jewellery collection is for any woman looking for designs that are high on style, texture, volume and distinction. Taking inspiration from the Maison’s archival Paillette motif, the collection (which was launched last year) features graphic shapes built from petite gold buttons and a delightful play of materials. This year sees five new pieces—earrings, pendant, necklace, bracelet and ring—being refreshed with white gold for an irresistible ombre effect.
KNOTTY AND NICE

Featuring 16 new knot motif designs, the fine jewellery creations are found in rose and white gold with lines of diamonds. From the hoop earrings and bracelets, to pendants and ear studs, we especially love the streamlined yet distinctive profile of the rings, which make stacking with other bijoux du jour a breeze.

ENGINEERED BEAUTY
In town to launch Niessing’s first boutique in Singapore, Head of Design, Nina Friesleben, shares more with BAZAAR about the German jewellery brand
Describe Niessing in three words.
It is feminine, sculptural, thoughtful.
How is Niessing different from other jewellery brands?
Our main focus is on design, so we really look forward to creating something new. For example, one of our designs, Topia, is gold but it folds like paper. Another design, Mirage, is airy and transparent. Niessing always offers something different and that makes us special.
What design would you recommend to ladies who are new to the brand?
The Tension ring. It is so timeless and unique and it’s really fascinating because the rings feature a floating diamond. It is something that has never been seen before.
Your designs are very architectural. What’s your inspiration?
It goes back to my childhood. My mum is an artist and my father is an architect, so I grew up with a lot of that sort of creativity.
How did it feel to win the Red Dot award for Product Design in 2015?
That’s a difficult question. As a creative person—and creative people are very sensitive—I was a little bit shy. But I was also a little bit proud, so it was a bit of both.
Which celebrities would you like to see in your designs?
Scarlett Johansson; and a very famous architect and designer, Patricia Urquiola. I really like her work.

LILAC LOVE
Sticking to her “go big or go home” motto, Rihanna turned up at the London launch of her Fenty Beauty line in a Molly Goddard frock worn with a diamond necklace decked with an 80-carat heart-shaped rock—among many others.
LIGHT SPECTRUM
We don’t know what we like better: That Zöe Kravitz chose to tone down her edgy side with such an endearing Dior gown, or that she kept her jewellery oh-so-chic with classic diamond pieces from Tiffany & Co.
CLASSIC MOVES
Jane Fonda was a lesson in how to accentuate your look with jewellery. She paired her Marchesa gown with similar hued designs from Pomellato’s Nudo and Tango range.
BRIGHT DELIGHT
How do you turn heads like Nicole Kidman? Turn up on the red carpet in an even redder dress by Calvin Klein and US$2 million worth of rocks by Harry Winston, of course!

SHAPE SHIFTER
In Singapore for Bulgari’s SerpentiForm exhibition, actress Alicia Vikander ponders on the similarities of snakes and actors with BAZAAR
You’re here for Bulgari’s SerpentiForm exhibition. Are you scared of snakes?
I am! I’m very good with bugs, spiders and all the other small, little things, but not snakes. It’s their movement; if they’re still, it’s fine. I’ve read somewhere about how this reaction is kind of natural; it’s in our DNA to stay away when we see a snake. But it’s a very beautiful being and, like what they celebrate at this brand, it’s an emblem that carries so much information, history and beauty. So I kind of enjoy that and I find that it’s incredibly beautiful to look at. What I like [about its symbolism] is that it’s a shape-shifting being; it’s the rebirth and re-innovation of something.
And shape-shifting is something actors have to do as well, in a way that you have to take on different characters.
Yes! I think it’s beautiful that Bulgari’s Serpenti has that ancient [association with] re-invention and yet, it’s always reinvented to become modern; to fit all ages and different kinds of women. And, of course, that’s what I aspire to do as an actress. In whatever profession, it’s very easy to kind of repeat things that have gone well in life. The difficult thing is to try and go off route and challenge yourself with new things. And when I look at the projects that I’ve done, be it because of the script or a director or actor that I want to work with, I kind of have that initial fear and excitement.
How did your relationship with Bulgari begin?
I must say it began way before I became an ambassador. It’s hard to say when I first got introduced to the brand because, when I was growing up, my mum—she’s an actress—introduced me to a lot of wonderful films. I grew up watching Ingrid Bergman, Elizabeth Taylor and Rachel Weisz… All these women, you know, who have been an inspiration and have had such love for this brand! So it was a big privilege when they reached out to me about maybe a year and a half ago. It was a big moment when I was brought to Rome and I met [Creative Director] Lucia Silvestri who took me into her workspace. She has a relationship with these stones, and I got to see how she develops these stories that then turn into jewellery. I’m in awe of her because it’s an energy that is in one way totally diff erent and at the same time it’s completely relatable; the way she talks about the love that she has for the stones and how her inspiration develops into a story.
It’s sort of like building a character, except this time it’s jewellery.
I love how bold Bulgari is. The story that runs through everything they’ve done is so clear. ■
