IN THE NAME OF LOVE

April’s birthstone, the diamond, is also a symbol of everlasting love, which makes it the top choice for bridal jewellery.

FIT FOR A QUEEN

Inspired by the love story of Napoleon and Empress Joséphine, Chaumet’s Aigrette ring has captured many hearts with its tiarainspired design centred around a pear-shaped diamond. But for brides who prefer something a little more understated, the Bee My Love solitaire ring collection features a geometric honeycomb band design, available in both plain and diamond-set versions.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS

Marrying the elements of haute couture with the mechanical precision of haute horlogerie, Vacheron Constantin’s new Égérie moon phase white gold and diamond-pavé watch ($93,000) features a guilloched dial reminiscent of the delicate pleats found in a couture gown. The off-centre subsidiary dial is a nod to one of the design codes that has been close to the heart of the watchmaker since the 19 th century, and highlights the date or moon phase display.

BELLE CURVE

Created in the 1970s, Piaget’s iconic Limelight Gala Precious watch (price upon request) gets a 2020 update that retains the original curvilinear case, encircling it with diamonds and sapphires arranged in a gradation of blues, set with an openworked technique that showcases the brilliance of the stones. Like its predecessors, the bracelet of the Limelight Gala Precious is hand-engraved using the Maison’s Décor Palace technique, which gives it a silk-like texture. Its dial is also engraved in the same manner and then covered in transparent blue Grand Feu enamel.

SECRET BLOOMS

Van Cleef & Arpels’ signature Frivole motif blossoms on a new timepiece. Set entirely with diamonds, the case of the Frivole Secrète ($181,000) consists of a cover of pivoting corollas that slides open to reveal a gem-set dial. Detach this diamondencrusted “bouquet” from the watch strap to wear it on a chain as a pendant or mount it on a clip as a brooch.

SHAPE-SHIFTERS

A new addition to Cartier’s Magnitude high jewellery collection is the Dioscures, a transformable jewellery set whose main attraction is a pair of large pear-shaped diamonds, each weighing just over 26 carats. What makes these so extremely rare are their colour and clarity on the GIA scale— these dazzlers are graded D in colour, Internally Flawless and Type IIa (less than 2 percent of diamonds fall into this category). The earrings and necklace can be worn with and without the two detachable pear-shaped centre stones.

MATERIAL WORLD

Chanel’s latest high jewellery collection is dedicated to tweed, a fabric that has become synonymous with the House. The Tweed de Chanel collection mimics the textile’s nubby texture and irregular weave by intertwining articulated gold or platinum studded with gemstones in various cuts and colours. Comprising 45 creations ranging from earrings to rings, necklaces and brooches, the handcrafted pieces sit comfortably on the body, much like the Maison’s structured yet supple jackets.

IMPERIAL TREASURES

A five-petal flower motif that adorns the marble ceiling of the ornate Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi was the starting point for Bvlgari’s Jannah collection, the result of a meeting of minds between the Italian jeweller’s creative director, Lucia Silvestri, and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the ruling royal family of the United Arab Emirates. The pieces in the collection draw inspiration from traditional Middle Eastern jewellery designs such as ring-bracelets and headpieces, which have been given a modern interpretation in form and the choice of gems.
