DIOR

“Among all colours, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities”.

“Among all colours, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities,” the late Christian Dior mused. With these words in mind, Maria Grazia Chiuri swathed her second runway collection for Dior in the hue. To Chiuri, blue represents more than the sky or sea—it is a symbol of “holy virgins and kings”, workwear, jazz music. The colour also filled paintings by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. Like an unstoppable wave, the colour appeared on military jackets, denim jumpsuits, sweaters and dresses (a bustier gown glittered like a thousand constellations) that Chiuri conjured as part of her ode to power, beauty and femininity at the storied French brand.
