British heritage is given a modern overhand

When the TB bag dropped earlier this year as part of Riccardo Tisci’s debut  collection for Burberry, a collective breath was drawn. Some loved its sleek contemporary design. Others loved its sheer versatility—coming in two sizes, it works as a shoulder bag, a cross-body messenger, a belt bag and a clutch. And everyone loved its gleaming monogram clasp, which referenced the initials of the founder, Thomas Burberry, in gold. It had been designed in collaboration with art director Peter Saville as part of a big rebranding exercise to take the British label into the next millennium.  A striking new monogram pattern was also created and we see it here, unapologetically splashed across this TB bag. With B the mix of serif and sans serif fonts in the monogram, plus the new palette of beige, white and orange, this audacious piece clearly takes no prisoners, summing up a radical change for Burberry.

TB bag, $3,490, available exclusively at #01-06, ION Orchard (Tel: 6509 9326).
