THE BRAND TO KNOW: MARC JACOBS

When it comes to party dressing, few have struck a balance between glamour and outright raucousness as well as this American heavyweight. His Resort collection mashes up some of the most hedonistic movements and icons in pop culture: punk (leather jackets and patches), ’90s MTV (logo sweatshirts), disco (metallic ’70s boots and dresses), and even some Marie Antoinette (corsets, brocade, balloon sleeves). After more than a year of being MIA from the local retail scene, he’s back with a boutique at Paragon (#01-03A), the first since merging his main line Marc Jacobs and its sister label Marc by Marc Jacobs (MBMJ) to create what brand president Sebastian Suhl describes as “a unified store concept”. Business spiel aside, it means a wider product and price range, starting from $140 for a tee or card case. That’s reason enough to celebrate. – NL
