Like most fashion from the ’80s, this ruched, knee-or-higher style could go very wrong (the era’s best style reference: post-punk singer Siouxsie Sioux; the worst: the guys in the Robin Hood TV series). But with all the trendiest designer labels punctuating next season’s clubbing wardrobe with it – including one five-figure, crystal-studded version from Saint Laurent that was swiftly adopted by Rihanna – it’s bound for every fashion lover’s “want” list, and subsequently high-street shelves. Foreground: Satin and leather boots, $1,650, Stuart Weitzman. Coach 1941 embroidered leather jacket and silk dress, Coach. Background: Suede boots, $3,090, and wool cape dress, Chanel.
