Confession: It wasn’t easy categorising the 16 products on the next four pages, because they all do more than what their traditional product type does. What this also means: They can replace other steps in your routine and make your life a whole lot easier. Sofia Kim curates the best multitasking beauty products to know now.
Kat Von D Everlasting Glimmer Veil, $35, Sephora
This doubles as a liquid lipstick and eyeshadow (hint: It has the boldest and brightest of shades). A combination of the brand’s long-wearing, weightless innovation (as seen in its Everlasting Liquid Lipstick) and gel-coated glimmer crystals ensure an even application, while iridescent micro-pearls and reflective mirror-crystals lend high colour payoff.
Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick, $37, Sephora
Available in 10 different shades, these longwearing makeup sticks work as eyeshadow, highlighter, blush, and even bronzer, thanks to a weightless, cream-to-powder shimmer formula that blends like a dream.
Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Blush, $48
As its name suggests, this works on your cheeks and lips. Formulated with the brand’s Hydraboost complex (which has a host of vegetable oils) and a coconut derivative, the soft and silky gel melts on skin, covering it with a natural veil of pigments, while helping to plump up puckers.
Laneige Two Tone Shadow Bar, $38
Formulated with aloe vera powder and a vitamin E plant derivative, this not only gives lids and cheeks a natural wash of colour, but also ensures that skin stays hydrated. The base colour (the lighter shade) contains jewel powder, a mineral pigment that adds subtle shimmer to lids and a luminous finish on cheeks.
Nars Liquid Blush, $50
Infused with monoi and tamanu oils, which render it silky and weightless for effortless blending, this can also be used on lips for a wash of colour.
Three Epic Mini Dash, $43
With a smooth, lightweight texture, this spreads effortlessly across the cheeks, and has radiant pearls to create a natural, luminous flush. It can also be applied on the lips for a natural-looking pout that is non-drying.
Not Your Usual Facial Mists
Urban Decay Rebound Collagen-infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray, $50
This lightweight spray not only prevents makeup from sliding off, but also firms and smooths skin, while evening out its tone. A cocktail of botanical extracts, including chia seeds (a rich source of antioxidant vitamin E) and centella asiatica (calms irritated skin), offers more skincare benefits. Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Marine
Boosting 4-in-1 Setting Mist, $20, Sephora
A complexion-boosting mist that restores skin’s natural radiance and hydration, this doubles as a primer as well. Infused with the brand’s antioxidant-packed Rainforest Of The Sea complex, it also protects from daily aggressors, and helps minimise pores, redness and puffiness.
Double Duty Skincare
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Exfoliating Clay Mask, $89, Sephora
This purifying mask contains kaolin clay, which targets pore concerns. Thanks to the presence of salicylic acid and natural exfoliants in its formulation, it also works as an exfoliator, leaving skin looking and feeling smooth and deeply cleansed.
Clarins Multi-active Treatment Essence, $70
More an essence that doubles as a mask, this has teasel extract (said to boost skin cell energy) and acerola seed extract that supposedly encourages cellular respiration, leaving skin revitalised, supple and more radiant. To use as a mask, apply the product on a cotton pad or a compressed sheet mask (available at beauty stores).
Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-replenishing Hydrator, $75
A moisturiser that supposedly strengthens skin’s moisture barrier, while “activating its natural water content” (with the help of an Auto-Replenishing Technology). Used as an overnight mask, it delivers non-stop skin-plumping hydration while you sleep.
Dior Lip Sugar Scrub, $48
This exfoliates lips with grains of sugar that scrub off dead surface skin, then melts away to nourish dry skin. And as if that’s not impressive enough, it leaves a soft pinkish wash of colour so your lips feel and look smooth, dewy and rosy.
Waso Color-Smart Day Moisturizer Oil-free SPF30, $55
It’s a colour-correcting base that brightens skin and evens out tone, but it also covers a few steps in one’s beauty routine. How it supposedly works: It helps suppress sebum breakdown with antioxidant-rich loquat leaf cells (hence its green colour), and heightens skin’s resistance to internal and external stressors with its Phytoresist System, while moisturising skin and protecting from UV damage. Also, it contains anti-pollution powder to control shine and help skin resist the effects of pollutants.
YSL Beaute Volupte Tint-In-Balm, $54
This has an outer shell that gives vivid yet slightly translucent colour payoff, while the inner core lip motif reinforces the formula for a more lasting finish. The hybrid formula gives you a moist finish, nourishing care and a glowing hue.
Diorsnow Brightening Makeup Base Colour Correction SPF35/PA+++, $84
This comes in three different shades: Rose helps brighten dull complexions, Beige neutralises and diminishes redness, and Bleu (blue) conceals sallowness. It also blends lightly, and works as a primer for perfect makeup hold and long-lasting foundation wear. Plus, it has edelweiss extract that reportedly slows down melanin production, and helps reduce the appearance of dark spots.
Cle de Peau Beaute UV Protective Cream Tinted SPF50+/PA++++, $120
This innovative tinted sun protection cream protects against UV rays, pollution and photoageing. It also has moisturising and retexturising ingredients, as well as a high-coverage corrective finish to hydrate, correct and conceal imperfections.
